Creating a sense of responsibility is one of the accepted ways of creating a strong moral home. Designating rotation duties for children is a simple way of instilling this sense of responsibility in children. Growing up, we had some of our older cousins living with us but everyone had something to take care of in the house. Luckily, I was only in charge of the flowers and it is a job I had loved so much. Some of my sibling had to polish the woods and take care of the furniture. Everyone had something to take care of and that became your responsibility. You can choose how to attend to it and when to, but it must never be found in bad shape otherwise, you are grounded. We grew up having in mind we had to take care of something. When we go for holidays, we unconsciously look for what to take care of and so, we are making our own homes with that tradition.

As a parent, you could choose to share duties among your children and supervise it for some time especially if they are not used to carrying out some home duties. Chances are, they will find it difficult at the initial stage but as time goes one, it will become part of them.

Here are some benefits of designating rotation duties for children

  1. It helps in child development: when a child is being assigned a duty in the house, he develops the skill to carry it out. When I was assigned to take care of the flowers, I really did not know how to do that but with time and some teachings from my older cousins, I was able to make a beautiful flower garden. This is a skill I have carry till today and I think it will be the same for any child who has done a particular duty over a long period of time. Also, it was a rotational duty for everyone in my house to help out in the kitchen whenever dinner is being prepare and we gathered some skills too. Designating rotation duties for children helps in their development.
  2. It helps the child develop good planning skill: proper planning necessitates the success of every opportunity one might get and designating rotation duties for children helps them to develop a good planning skill; not just for their duties at home but for every other activity they will be engaging in both now in in the future.
  3. Helps develop good morals: when a child develops good sense of responsibility, he grows up seeing the need to do everything right in the society. Designating rotation duties for children is a sure way of encouraging good morals in children because they gain some correction when they do their duties wrongly and they are always happy to do it the right way the nest time. They simply understand that they can make mistakes in carrying out their duties, but they should also put in more effort to do it better
