Express Shipping Worldwide is Free The Complete Works of Gaius Petronius Translated by Jack Lindsay Published by The Fanfrolico Press, London, 1927 Limited First Edition of 650 copies, this copy numbered 619 Signed by Jack Lindsay This is the first complete version in English of the Roman Dickens, whose keen power of character-draughtmanship has expressed the living Roman world completely and without idealisation, though, threading the realism, runs a vein of lyrical laughter. This translation won high praise at the time for its fidelity to the original not only literally but also in spirit. With 100 large folio size collotype full page plates by Norman Lindsay, and blank to the rear. The collotypes were made in Vienna by Max Jaffe. In 152 pages in Poliphilus type on a Dutch hand-made paper, the top edge is gilt and other edges are uncut. The plates are printed one side only and very often broken up for them as they are quite frameable each in their own right. The book is bound in original half vellum with marbled boards. There is light shelfwear. There is a tear/peel to the marbled paper covering of the boards at the front panel. There is sunning to the spine. There is very faint scattered foxing to perhaps 20% of the pages mostly to the top blank margin. There is a previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. All plates are in near fine condition. There are no missing, loose, creased, stained, or damaged pages. The spine and binding are solid. It is complete and original. Measures 24.5cm x 32.5cm and weighs a significant 2 kilos (4.4 pounds) unpacked. A must for the serious collector.
