Douay Rheims Old Testament Only Latin Vulgate Folio Bible, Dated 1811: This is a fantastic example of a Douay Rheims Folio Bible! The Holy Bible : translated from the Latin Vulgate, diligently compared with the Hebrew, Greek, and other editions in divers languages. The Old Testament, first published by the English College at Douay, A.D. 1609 : and the New Testament, first published by the English College at Rheims, A.D. 1582 / with useful notes, critical, historical, controversial, and explanatory, selected from the most eminent commentators There are multiple beautiful engravings, designed by Warren. The engraver could be either Charles Warren or Ambrose Warren. Both of whom were engravers based in London at the time. There is beautiful gilding along the edges of the pages and amazing golden vine designs along the edge of the cover. There is an inscription: A M D G (Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam) London 3 May 1839 Mr. (Illegible for me) (Staunton?) Could be Michael John Staunton, an Irish publisher and Irish nationalist, who at this date would have been hiding from British authorities. Herbert Catalogue - 1579 The text is 100% legible with no pages missing. Dimensions: Weight - 5.2kg Height - 44cm Width - 27.5cm Thickness - 6.2cm Damage: Wearing on the covers Appears to be a damaged leather "patch" on the spine that appears to have the first part of a date on it. Foxing There is some staining, it looks as if it were bleeding from the text itself to the surrounding areas. Around half way through the Bible there is a ripped page.
