Description

Very unusual and hard to Find!!! Circa 1915 Sidway Mercantile folding baby carriage made in Elkhart, Indiana. It closes to a fairly compact 30x21x13 and opens up to a very roomy carriage, 21" wide across the wheels, 45" long from handle to front with handle height 36". The carriage has a metal frame with joints that lock into place to open. The seat and back are black canvas- the same material that the hood is made from. The area around baby is made of metal, painted black and detailed with a pinstripe of gold- the lines of the carriage make it resemble a sleigh. There is also a "seat" that isn't in the best of condition but is included. It is really well constructed and the framework is very solid. It is quite heavy for its size- doubtless the weight made it a little less than easy to carry for mothers. But it must have been very stylish for the era and remains a wonderful old buggy for display. The finishes need restoration. The canvas hood has faded ( I believe it was originally black) and has a few small holes which is remarkable for the age. The plywood of the seat back have the laminations separated and should be replaced. The metal finishes show wear and some rust, plywood paint is worn, tires show a small age shrinkage gap and some missing rubber. Please look at all pictures as they are an important part of the description. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
