Adulthood and the Need for Jobs

As children, we are under the false impression that the moment we hit adulthood, we will have the ultimate freedom and our lives will become everything that we have ever dreamed of, not to mention, all the dream professions we constantly delve on growing up. As soon as we pass the stage of adulthood and the responsibilities kick in, we realize that we couldn’t have been farther from the truth! Adulthood is definitely far more rated than it should be!

One of the hardest realities of living as an adult is the need to have a job. Yes, we need jobs to have some fulfillment in life and we need it to have a standing in the society, but for most people, jobs are needed for money.

Worst Paying Jobs for Graduates

We were under another wrong impression growing up if we thought acquiring a degree or a bunch of them automatically means making a lot of money. Reality is far from such.

Many jobs require degrees in order for the person to be qualified for the post, but they hardly pay much. The following are a few professions that require degrees, but do not pay accordingly:

Directors of Religious Education and Activities: Directors not only have to create educational activities and programs for religious get-togethers, they may also have to give advice/counseling to the youth and married couples. They may work long hours at night over the phone. They are paid very little for the amount of services and commitment they provide.

Reporters and Respondents: With the onset of the internet and people providing news with the help of their own phones and uploading them on sources such as YouTube, traditional reporting has been hit hard. Revenue from this industry has been declining and is expected to continue to go down. With a requirement of a degree under Communications or Journalism, this is not an easy post to jump the ladder with.

School Counselors: School counselors often have to help children who have gone through trauma or have been abused on some level. They may help with both emotional and physical issues that children may be facing on a day-to-day basis.

Editors and Proofreaders: This job requires the employee to read through lengthy works and make sure there are no errors whether in spelling or grammatically. It is time consuming and hardly pays.

Graduate Teaching Assistants: These assistants are required to grade exams and prepare them as and when necessary. They may also teach lower level courses when asked. They are not paid much even though their responsibilities are almost at par with professors.

Scouts and Coaches: Not only are scouts and coaches mandated to reach high levels of educational achievements, but they also tend to work long hours with physical training on the side. Many coaches have played the sport they coach either in their colleges or on a professional level. They have experience in addition to academic qualifications. However, they are not paid much compared to the expectations expected from their end.
